Answer:

5 Fundamental Properties Of Nonmetals

  • for ionic/covalent bonds.
  • brittle and nonmalleable.
  • low melting/boiling points.
  • High ionization energy and electronegativity.
  • poor conductors of heat and electricity.

example : Hydrogen, hydrogen, chlorine, fluorine, carbon, nitrogen, arsenic, phosphorus, selenium are examples of non-metal.

There are the properties of non metals..

  1. Hardness : non metals are generally soft and brittle in nature. ex. Sulphur and phosphorus.
  2. Density : non metals have low densities. for ex. the density of phosphorus and Sulphur is 1.82g/ml and 2.06g/ml respectively
  3. lustre : non metals are not lust rous and they have dull appearance. This is due to the absence of free electrons in non metals.
  4. Sonority: Non metals are non - sonorous. they do not produce sound when hit by an object
  5. non metals shows the electronegative character, which means it accept electrons and form anions .
