Properties of transitional epithelium are as follows:-

1. This epithelium is also known as 'Urothelium '.

2. During stretching the basement Membrane gets invisible.

3 . Four to six layers of cells are present.

4. The innermost layers of the cell consists of cube like cells.

5 . The 2-4 middle layers composed of polyhedral cells.

6. And the outermost 1-2 layers consists of oval cells.

7. Cells are connected to each other by interdigitation.

8. Stretchable and water proof.

9. These different shapes of cells appear only in the resting stage.

10. Examples:- Urinary bladder, uterus and PCT
