Nylon - it is a polyamide ,linear chained fibre and is fully synthetic. It has high tensile strength and is a flexible fibre and is used for making parachutes,bristles of toothbrushes and climbing ropes. The first artificial fibre (from plant cellulose) was made in 1910.

For example, they can be flexible and elastic or stiff and strong or they can have high or low water absorbancy. Compared to natural fibers, synthetic fibers are usually more water, stain, heat and chemical resistant.
