The Parliament of India passed the Consumer Protection Act in the year 1986 preserve the interests of consumers in India. The following are some of the provisions made under this act:

1. To establish councils for consumers that can help to settle consumer disputes and matters related to it.  

2. Broadly, this act tries to protect the right of consumers such as to protect consumers against selling of goods and services which are precarious to life and capital.

3. Right to be heard and to be guaranteed that consumers' matters will receive due attention at appro-priate tribunals.
