Following reasons are the purposes of locomotion:
1) Locomotion is primarily performed by animals. So, since they can't synthesize there food, they have to move around to search for food (unlike plants, who can synthesize there own food by photosynthesis.)
2) Locomotion can also help the animals to move around thereby making their health better instead of being stuck at one place for their entire lifetime.
3) Third and THE most important reason is, they can perform all the life processes (Nutrition, Respiration, Circulation, Egestion, Assimilation, Reproduction,etc..........)
Hope this answer helps :-)

For many animals, the ability to move is essential for survival and, as a result, natural selection has shaped the locomotion methods and mechanisms used by moving organisms. Hence, The purpose of locomotion is to search Food, Shelter and Mate.

Locomotion helps us to move from place to other. In general, animals require locomotion for defence, searching for food and shelter. The locomotory movement is the coordinated movement of various bones, tissues and joints such as cartilage, muscles, bone, ligaments, and tendons, etc.

The muscular and skeletal systems provide support to the body and allow for movement. The bones of the skeleton protect the body’s internal organs and support the weight of the body. The muscles of the muscular system contract and pull on the bones, allowing for movements as diverse as standing, walking, running, and grasping items. We will focus on the connection between human skeletal and muscular system to illustrate how these two organ systems coordinate to generate locomotion.

Human Skeletal System

The human skeleton is an endoskeleton that consists of 206 bones in the adult. An endoskeleton develops within the body rather than outside like the exoskeleton of insects. The skeleton has five main functions: providing support to the body, storing minerals and lipids, producing blood cells, protecting internal organs, and allowing for movement. The skeletal system in vertebrates is divided into the axial skeleton (which consists of the skull, vertebral column, and rib cage), and the appendicular skeleton (which consists of limb bones, the pectoral or shoulder girdle, and the pelvic girdle).

Locomotion in biology pertains to the various movements of organisms (single-celled or multicellular organisms) to propel themselves from one place to another. In multicellular animals, these movements include walking, running, jumping, crawling, climbing, swimming, flying, galloping, slithering, and so on.

Locomotion is a method of movement, in which an organism move from one place to another. It always takes place in animals because animals are not autotrophs, they depend on other for food. it never takes place in plants. ... It also help in protecting the animals from predators and locomotion also help for reproduction.
