The Constitution does not set forth any qualifications for Supreme Court justices. Whomever the President nominates and the Senate confirms may take an available seat on the Court. In theory, a Supreme Court justice could be a non-lawyer. However, the American Bar Association does a highly influential qualifications rating on each nominee, making it less likely that a non-lawyer would ever be seated.
