➥Specific heat gives an idea about the heat storing capacity of the substances in the transient state. The substances with high specific heat can store large amount of heat without significant increase in its temperature. Water (also air) is a fluid which has very high specific heat, that is why water bodies are used to reject waste heat from the industries. By rejecting heat to water the temperature does not change much. Suppose if the specific heat of the water and air would have been low then the temperature of the atmosphere and the oceans will increase to a very high level by absorbing heat from sun and the situation will be grave if we run industries and air conditioners (ACs reject heat to the atmosphere).
