I think the reason is that most of the older language were hard to speak and had a hard grammar and literature and the new languages were made easier than the older languages so because of this reason people started speaking the new languages and the older languages came to extinction
like Sanskrit is considered as a harder language than Hindi so people prefer Hindi over Sanskrit
