The factors that are responsible for our agricultural backwardness are:Traditional farming, Lack of proper irrigation system, Lack of transport and market, Unscientific and undemocratic distribution of land, Over pressure of manpower, Poor economic condition, Lack of research activities.
2nd reason
Although land reclamation and settlement were occurring in the Terai Region, environmental degradation and ecological imbalance resulting from deforestation also prevented progress. Although new agricultural technologies helped increase food production, there still was room for further growth.
3rd reason
Terai is the main area where cereal crops can be extensively grown. Because of the tropical and sub-tropical climate in the region, food crops, vegetables and fruits of tropical and sub-tropical nature are the main agricultural produce. As we go higher we have mid-hills where different types of crops can be grown.
