President is the nominal head of the country, where as, Prime Minister is the real head of the country and all power vests in his hand. So it is a waste of money and time,if the President is elected directly. Hence, direct elections are not held for the post of President.

Answer:

Reason for Indirect Election:-

  • If person would directly elected by the people then it would become rival centre of power to the Concil of Minister.(It will be against the parlimentary system ).
  • The President is elected by the Electoral Collage.
  • Since the membership in the two Houses of Parliament was likely to be dominated by one party, election would be majority by union Parliament nominee of the ruling party like Pm.
