1. Social Reasons- Given today's society, people live very superficial lives. They are often stressed and look for quick relief. Drugs give temporary relief because of the way they affect the brain and nervous system. So, people do not stop to think about how these substances are killing them. They only look for short lived joy.
Also, unfortunately, drugs are easily available. Internet connectivity has improved communication tremendously. This adds to the ease of buying and selling drugs.
2. Family Reasons- Family structure these days is not as strong as it used to be. In many homes, both parents are working and there is no one to keep a check on children. In many other cases, where there are broken homes because of divorce, children are often neglected. This emotional problem makes them go astray and they take to drugs.
3. Showing Off to Peers- Peer pressure is a very strong factor that pushes young people into drugs. Individuals feel the need to look 'cool' and so try to experiment with drugs. That habit of showing off unfortunately becomes a case of drug addiction even before they realise.
Therefore, one's equation with society, family and peers, all contribute to the growth of number of drug users.
