There are multiple reasons due to which this problem has been on rise.
There is no law to protect elderly people and whatever are there aren’t easy to follow
We are most stressful due to the current lifestyle and do not want further stress and as our parents grow old they have their set of thinking and way of looking at things. Due to this there is always friction between son/daughter and parents.
Youngsters compare themselves with their friends and peer groups and if they feel their parents haven’t done enough for them in past they have this sort of hatred or carelessness attitude towards them.
Medicines and medical expenses have become very costly hence they don’t want to get committed with further financial burdens.
Government do not have strong pension schemes which is sufficient for elderly to survive hence they are seen as burden by their children.
If elderly cannot speak English or are modern then their grandchild might get influenced and not have expected society standards so it is better to keep them at a distance.
Most of the elderly people are still very traditional in their thoughts and expect their son or daughter in laws to behave in certain pattern which isn’t acceptable hence they either get separated or abused.
