The death of Humayun's son Aurangzeb was the biggest turning point in the decline of the Mughal empire.  When Robert Clive defeated Siraj-ud-daullah in the Battle of Plassey which took place in 1757, the defeat shook the foundation of Mughal Empire.  After Aurangzeb, there was a fierce war for succession to the throne which weakened the military and finances.  There was no strong leader among the Mughals which demoralises the army.
