The phylum Arthropoda consists of more than 75% of the animal species found on this earth. The reasons for the success of arthropods are as follows.

i. Jointed legs that allow more mobility on land

ii. Hard exoskeleton made of chitin that protects the body

iii. The hard exoskeleton also reduces water loss from the body of arthropods making them more adapted to terrestrial conditions.

The reason behind arthropods constituting as the largest group are

because of its features -

1. Type of exoskeleton named as chitin exoskeleton covers the body of the Arthropods.

2. They have special structures named as malpighian tubules through which they excrete out the waste substances.

3. Arthropods possesses appendages that are of joint type.

4. Also they have special structures like book gills, book lungs, for respiring.

5. Examples : Honey bee, Locust, Culex, Silkworm and King Crab.
