★Britishers were critical to Orientalists i.e. people who were interested in culture of Asia.
★British thought that Asia is an uncivilized continent as well as declared that Europe was one of most civilized continent.
★They always praised western knowledge and told that the Eastern knowledge was full of errors, unscientific and non-serious.
★So, they thought to change pattern of Indian education by reforming it.
★English was made the medium of instruction for higher education as they thought that English is a good medium to civilize natives.
★Make Indians aware of development in the Western science and philosophy.
★Tried to improve moral character of Indians and to make them “Civil Servants”.
★They tried to set up English college in important cities like Bombay, Calcutta, Madras and Delhi where there is high population.
★Also, changed pattern of studies in Pathshala by imposing ‘Annual Examination’ to test knowledge of students.
