Most of the time, we break ourumbrellas along the ribs. These are the thin pieces of metal that are attached to the fabric and extend when a user unfurls the umbrella. In order to fold down to a manageable size, each ribhas three or four ligaments, or smaller sections that are jointed together by small pins.

hope it will help you ...........

The ribs of umbrella are the tiny pipes that are attached to the cloth of the umbrella which helps in opening and closing it.
