Answer:

Hey dear❤

One of the main benefits of eating roughage is that it helps to regulate your digestion. Insoluble fiber provides bulk in your intestines and helps to keep food moving through your digestive tract.

Insoluble fiber absorbs water and swells into a gel that helps to keep bowel movements soft and easy to pass.

Roughage can also be defined as the non-digestible cellulose. Cellulose is the main component of the cell wall of the plant cell. It is fibrous in nature. We generally get from the plant products such as fruits, vegetables and other plant parts such as salary. When we consume the plant parts and plant products then the cellulose never gets digested in our food canal because, there is no such enzymes in our intestine which can digest cellulose. And this undigested cellulose acts roughage.

The roles of roughage includes:

  • Being fibrous, cellulose absorbs a lot of water ad retains it, thus helps in keeping the faecal matter soft and prevents constipation.
  • The movement of undigested food through the intestine becomes easier.
  • It stimulates the muscle contraction.
