The central aim of the educational sociologist can thus be defined as being to study the process ofeducation, and the institutions by which it is carried on, in relation to the economic, political, cultural and other institutions of the society in which it functions.

It centers upon the study of social institutions and their role in education. The scope of sociology of education includes the study of relationship of education to the other aspects of social system particularly kinship , social stratification, political organization knowledge and attitudes to knowledge.
