What Are The Segments In Asset Master ?

I have searched for a solution, but not yet seen anything. With ECC6, new GL, I am looking to put the Segment into the Asset master data, either as a custom field, or a valuation group, or use for instance Location which is not used in this service company. I can put the segment into Location and make it mandatory. I will use an LSMW to add the 'segment' to the location field for existing assets and mandatory for new ones.
