National Population Policy was implemented in year 1952 but it was adopted in the year 2000. Its main objective are to:

1. Promote the economic and social development of the country and improve the quality of life of people.

2. To enhance their well being and to provide them opportunity and choices to become productive assets in society.

3. Death rate is to be reduced. Family planning and birth control measures are to be used.

The National Population Policy NPP aims at stabilizing population by 2045. It Lays emphasis on economic growth, social development and environmental protection. Certain measures which are to be adopted for it are:

1. Raising the age of marriage.

2. Making School Education upto age of 14 years free and compulsory.

3. Reducing dropouts at primary and secondary level..

The immediate objective of the NPP is to address the unmet needs for contraception, health care infrastructure, and health personnel, and to provide integrated service delivery for basic reproductive and child health care. The medium-term objective is to bring the TFR to replacement levels by 2010, through vigorous implementation of inter-sectorial operational strategies.
