Respiration

  • Oxidation of glucose in order to provide energy for maintenance, repair etc.
  • As earlier said, respiration is required for the process of the synthesis of ATP
  • This energy is of vital importance as it is used by cells for carrying out their functions

Excretion

  • Removal of metabolic wastes from the body
  • These wastes need to be eliminated because when accumulated they become toxic and can cause a wide range of deadly diseases
  • Excretion doesn't only mean removal of faeces and elimination of urine, but the carbon dioxide from lungs and sweat from skin glands are also body wastes
