Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, both were prominent personalities of India. The former is known as the father of the nation, whereas the latter is known as the father of the Indian Constitution.

Both of them has a collective viewpoint to abolish the caste system and untouchability prevailing in India and worked extensively towards it.

However, there was a difference in the approaches of the two leaders. Ambedkar believed that the Dalits were a separate community from mainstream Hinduism and therefore they must be given a distinct identity.

Gandhi on the other advocated that Dalits are a part of the Hindu community and must not be given statutory recognition and legal sanctions independently.
