Metals and non-metals are composed of tiny invisible particles called atoms specific to each substance.   All atoms are structurally similar - like spherical shape.  They contain electrons, protons, neutrons.

They have physical shape and properties, like color, size, volume, density, etc.

They are uniquely identified by a property called atomic number Z.

The metals and non-metals react with some other elements and compounds, to form some compounds.

The metals and non-metals can exist in solid, liquid and gaseous states at some  temperatures.
