Well Jim is a boy helping his mother in a little Inn and Silver is a seasoned pirate of the high seas. They are both pretty flat characters. The boy is essentially good and Silver is bad. I hate to put it in those terms but, although a great book, this is escape fiction. Silver is animated and manipulative where as Jim is a boy looking for adventure. Jim is loyal where Silver is crook. Come on he's a pirate!
