The problem with understanding Harappan civilization is that unlike Egyptian civilization, we have not deciphered Harappan texts. This gives us only archaeological material to work from. Harappan civilization was huge, with many hundreds of cities (Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa were the largest). Another problem with understanding Harappan civilization is that we do not yet have access to earlier phases of it: they are either inundated or covered in dirt or buildings. So the archaeology we have comes from a well-developed period. Other than that, the similarities between the two are the same similarities that we tend to find in ancient agricultural civilizations.
