Gandhi thought that the western education was hampering the Indian culture . but Tagore want to combine the good aspects of it with the Indian traditions , He recognised the importance of science and technology and wanted to promote them along with art, music and dance at Shantiniketan. Similarities between Tagore and Gandhi:
a. Both believed in the practical knowledge that would allow child to do some creative work through art, crafts, child must be allowed to learn outside the rigidities of books, discipline as established by the British.
b. Both believed that education must bring about holistic development of child's personality.
Difference between Tagore and Gandhi:
a. Gandhiji was critical of modern western education which according to him it has enslaved us while Tagore believed in combining the best elements of modern education with Indian Traditions..
