Pyruvate is the end product of glycolysis.
Glycolysis (or EMP Pathway) (we can say pyruvate synthesis) takes place in CYTOOLASM.
GLYCOLYSIS results in the breakdown of 1 Molecule of GLUCOSE in to 2 molecules of PYRUVIC AICDS which turns in to pyruvate.

The only difference between pyruvic acid and pyruvate is that the hydrogen atom on the carboxylic acid group has dissociated. ..... Because of the acidity of Pyruvic acid, nearly all Pyruvic acid formed in the human body dissociates immediately and is found as PYRUVATE

Pyruvate synthesis takes place in cytoplasm. The chemical reaction, where in pyruvic acid dehydrogenase acts as a catalyst.
