The Puranas provide a lot of information about the period, and Kalidasa is believed to belong to that period.

He was a famous poet and dramatist. Old coins, paintings, monuments, and seals are the archeological sources of information that were discovered.

Fahien, the Chinese traveler, and a Buddhist monk wrote about his experiences visiting the empire during that period.
