There are many causes for water pollution but two general categories exist: direct and indirect contaminant sources. Direct sources include effluent outfalls from factories, refineries, waste treatment plants etc.. that emit fluids of varying quality directly into urban water supplies.

We can conserve water by : -

Check all faucets, pipes and toilets for leaks.

Install water saving showerheads and ultra-low-flush toilets.

Take shorter showers.

Never use your toilet as a wastebasket.

Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving.

Defrost frozen food in the refrigerator.

Hope it helps :))

Answer:

There are two types of sources of water pollution:-

1. Point sources: These include factories, power plants, underground coal mines and oil wells situated close to water sources. They discharge pollutants directly into the water source without treating them.

2. Non point sources: They are scattered and do not have any specific location for discharging pollutants into a particular water body. These include run-off from fields, lawns, gardens and streets. Non-point sources are difficult to monitor, regulate and treat.

Water can be conserved by following given methods:

  • Don't Run the Hose While Washing Your Car.
  • Use a Broom, Not a Hose, to Clean Driveways and Sidewalks.
  • Cover Swimming Pools to Reduce Evaporation.
  • Check for Leaks in Pipes, Hoses, Faucets and Couplings.
  • Reuse Wastewater Where Possible.
