Earl Cornwallis was a title in the Peerage of Great Britain. He subsequently served as Commander-in-Chief of India. In 1792 he was created Marquess Cornwallis in the Peerage of Great Britain. He was succeeded by his son, the second Marquess. He represented Eye and Suffolk in Parliament.
Cornwallis engaged in reforms of all types, that affected many areas of civil, military, and corporate administration.
