The most stable oxidation state of any element is when it has inert gas configuration .
So the carbon will be stable at or -4 oxidation state and nitrogen will be stable in -3 oxidation state
So the carbon will be stable at or -4 oxidation state and nitrogen will be stable in -3 oxidation state
