• Hypogeal germination
Here, the seed absorbs water and swells. The testa softens and bursts open. Now, the radicle emerges and forms the root system and the plumule forms the shoot system. (pea)
• Epigeal germination
Here, the seed absorbs water and swells. The radicle forms the root system and the arched hypocotyl grows forming a loop above the soil, it then straitens bringing the cotyledons above the soil. These then become the first leaves.(beans)
• Viviparous germination
Here, the seed germinates inside the fruit while its still attached to the parent plant. (mangrove)
