Aluminium is obtained from almunia by electrolytic reduction method
almunia does not conduct electricity in solid state it mailed at very high temperature therefore all ammonia is dissolved in molten cryolite containing a small quantity of flurspar(caF2).
therefore a molten mixture of alumia in cryolite is used as electrolyte
cryolite is added to almunia to lower the melting point of aluminium make the electrolyte a good conductor of electricity in molten mixture of ammonia cryolite and fluorspar into iron tank length from inside the carbon lining.
and the process of carbon lining act as cathode and anode consists of a number of carbon rod suspended from a bus bar and deep into molten electrolyte.
when electric current is passed through the electrolyte aluminium metal is obtained at cathode while Oxygen gas is liberated at anode.
so by this process we can get the aluminium
