The supernatural elements in the story "A face in the dark" are the movement and sound of the pine trees,the darkness of the night,flickering of the torch etc.

To further build up the atmosphere of eeriness, following details have been provided:-

"He carried a torch and its gleem- the batteries were running down."

"He had no eyes,ears, nose or mouth."

"The torch fell from his trembling hands."

"....he saw a lantern swinging in the middle of the path."

"... And that's when the wind blew out the lamp."
