What are the symptoms to indicate that the food is unfit for consumption?

The first symptom that is easily noticed is the discoloration of the food. And then comes the smell if it is old. Also, one may notice fungus formed on top. if all else fail to show symptoms, the bad taste surely would show the food unfit for consumption. These things are caused due to bacteria which may be due to heat, improper handling of food, non-refrigeration etc.
