Elections to the Vidhan Sabhas are carried out in the same manner as for the Lok Sabhaelection, with the states and union territories divided into single-member constituencies, and the first-past-the-postelectoral system used.

In India, there is universal suffrage. Results of elections are determined by first-past-the-postelectoral system. Elections are conducted by the ElectionCommission of India. The Prime Minister of India is elected by members of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament.
