Tank irrigation has decreased considerably over the years in Telangana and it has also reduced the agricultural output. The reasons may be attributed to poor monsoons, rampant exploitation of groundwater resources, lack of effective water management practices, lack of community help to maintain tanks.
“Mission Kakatiya” is TRS ( Telangana Rashtra Samithi ) government sponsored programme to revive these defunct chain of tanks.

The reason for the decline in the usage of tanks is that with the modern technology and fast paced. or  other  reason may be the attributed to poor monsoons, lack of community to help to maintain tanks,lack of effective water management practices these could be the other reasons of declining tanks.
