The Shakthi vishishtadvaita philosophy was propounded by Sri Basaveshwara.

He sought to create a society without classes. 'Work is worship,' he proclaimed (Kayakave Kailasa).

He was against idol worship and rites such as yaga and Yajna. He claimed that one's own body is a temple. He worked to improve women's lives.

He preached his views in 'Vachanas,' a literary form that could be read as prose or sung like a ballad. Vachanas are short paragraphs that end with one or more local names by which Shiva is called or Pooja is offered.

They reflect on wealth's vanity, life's unpredictability, and Shiva Bhakta's spiritual benefits (worshiper of lord Shiva). The style of invocation of God (Basveshvara invokes "Kudala Sangama Deva") can be used to identify the authors of a certain Vachana.
