Buddha spoke of four noble Truths:-

  1. Human life is full of suffering.
  2. Suffering is caused by desires.
  3. People would be free from suffering only, if they gave up their desires.
  4. The eightfold path would help the people to get rid of their desires, and lead them to Nirvana .

Nirvana was that state of being where there was no more suffering or desire. The Buddha called Nirvana, "The highest state of happiness". The principles of the eightfold path that would lead people to nirvana were-

  • The right view of things.
  • Right speech.
  • Right action.
  • the right purpose in life
  • right effort
  • right living
  • right thinking
  • right meditation.
