Subsidiary alliance is a policy developed by Wellesy when he was the governal general. It said that the local rulers of India can lend the advanced British army but they have to look after them and pay them fair. If they fail to do it properly the ruler have to give the British a part of his territory. The British had even forced the rulers to accept the policy whom they have captured.
