Munshi Premchand's “Idgah” is the story of a four-yera-old boy named Hamid. The story begins on the morning of Eid. Hmaid is an orphan and lives with his grandmother. He has only three paisa as idi for the festival to spend at the fair. He sadly watches other boys bying sweets, toys and going on rides with thrie money. But, Hamid remebering how his grandmother burns her hand while making rotis, buys a chimta for her. Though his frieds ridicle him for his gift, he tells that it is not perishable like their toys.
The grandmother though shocked at first, on hearing his reason, she bursts into tears. This story shows the maturity, the love and compassion of a young child, which evens lacks in adults.
Thus the themes of the story include selflessness, poverty, love, helplessness, care, and empathy.
