Xenophobia is the fear of strangers; the hatred, dislike or prejudice against people who are not like us or who are different from us (foreigners, other religion, etc).  Three contributing factors that may lead to xenophobia are:

1. Insecurity - We are unsure of our own culture and abilities;

2. Superiority - We think we are better than others that is why we look down at them;

3. A traumatic experience - We may associate a traumatic experience with those people from different group that is why we get scared of them or we do not trust them.
