One of the most important decisions that Gandhi made that affected the human rights of other people was his commitment to nonviolence. Gandhi represented the belief that violence dehumanizes. His commitment to nonviolence affected the human rights of other people in how he sought to bring the humanity out in everyone. Gandhi believed that both aggressor and victim possessed human dignity and felt that violence took this dignity away. In affirming a nonviolent position, Gandhi's decision enhanced the human right of dignity in all.
Another important decision that Gandhi made which affected the human rights of other people was his insistence that the British leave India. In demanding India's freedom, Gandhi impacted the human rights of Indians all over the subcontinent. He insisted on political and social self- determination. This sought to enhance human rights of Indians who had been controlled by the British for centuries.
Finally, Gandhi advocated a post-Independence platform of religious acceptance. Gandhi made the decision to insist that all religions could be welcome in the subcontinent. He did not embrace Partition and the creation of two separate states. Gandhi made the decision to advocate a belief system which embraced Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Jewish people, as well as any other religion in the new nation. Gandhi's decision impacted human rights of people who sought to embrace divergent religious expressions. In these ways, Gandhi's decisions impacted the human rights of other people, and in many cases, made life better for them.
