The 3 lists are
- central list
- state list
- concurrent list
central list : Laws were made in parliament and they are applicable to whole country.
ex : army,navy,etc....
state list : laws are applicable to whole state
ex : mla ,mro,police etc....
concurrent list : laws were made by both central and state
ex: education ,forest etc.....

The three-fold distribution of legislative powers :
- Union List : Union list consists of 97 subjects. It includes subjects of national importance such as defence of the country, foreign affairs, banking, communication and currency.
- State List : State list consists of 66 subjects. It contains subjects of the state and local importance such as police, trade, commerce, agriculture and irrigation.
- Concurrent List : Concurrent list consists of 47 subjects. It includes subjects of common interest to both the Central and State Governments includes matters such as education, forest, trade unions, marriage, adoption and succession.
