Three regions of the alimentary canal of the cockroach are; 1. Fore gut also known as stomodaeum, 2. Mid gut also known as mesenteron and 3. Hind gut also known as proctodaeum. Mouth leads into a pharynx which leads into a narrow passage called the esophagus receiving secretions from salivary glands than followed by crop used for food storage to gizzard- the grinding and chewing organ. Fore gut ends here and hepatic caeca are located at the junction of fore gut and mesenteron which than leads towards the hind gut- ileum-colon-rectum and the junction of mid gut and hind gut is lined by malpighian tubules.
