The northern plain lies  in between the Himalayas and Peninsular India. It covers an area of 7.5 lakh  sq.km.

The three parts in which the northern plains are divided as follows :


1.PUNJAB PLAINS → The western part of the northern plain is referred to as the Punjab Plains. It has been formed by the river Indus and its tributaries. In the foothills of Shiwaliks seasonal streams cause soil erosion .


2. THE GANGA PLAIN → It includes the states of North India ,Haryana ,Delhi ,UP ,Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. It has three sections upper Ganga plain ,Middle Ganga plain and Delta. The Sunderban Delta is the largest delta in the world.


3. BRAHMAPUTRA VALLEY → Brahmaputra valley lies in the state of Assam. The Brahmaputra river forms a largest delta in Bangladesh.
