Decimal Expansion of Rational Numbers:

  • A number in the form p/q or a number that can be expressed in the form p/q where p and q are integers, and q≠0 is called a rational number.
  • A rational number can be expressed as a decimal number. The decimal form of a rational number can be terminating or non-terminating.

EXAMPLE

  • Select the decimal expansion of rational numbers from the following. 1.444444…,1.4,5.67432145…

AÑSWER

  • 1.444444… is non terminating recurring decimal. 1.4 is the decimal expansion form of a rational number.

  • But 5.67432145…. is a non-recurring and non-terminating decimal. So, it can not be expressed as a rational number.

  • Therefore, the decimal expansion of rational numbers is 1.4,1.44444….
