Usually the two crop pairs have one leguminous and another non leguminous crops. This is used by farmers so that the leguminous crops fix nitrogen with the help of rhizobium bacteria which can be used up by the non leguminous crops. For example : Wheat and Pea plants are planted where Pea plant is a legume crop which fixes nitrogen in the soil which can be also used by the wheat crop plant.
By this, the soil fertility is not reduced very fast and the farmer need not to use to give extra Fertilisers containing nitrogen which also reduces his expenses.
