There are two legends associated with the discovery of tea.

There is an Indian legend which goes like this. About the origin of the tea it is said that a Buddhist monk (name is mentioned in the chapter...it was from NCERT's English book, chapter name Tea From Assam. Do include the monk's name from there.) while meditating felt sleepy. To avoid it he cut his eye lids and threw them. Few sapling sprouted out of the eyelids. It is said they were tea leaves. When those leaves were mixed with water and drank, it banished sleep.

The other under current story lies like this that a king in China, an emperor was in habit of drinking water after boiling it. Few leaves of the twigs burning under the pot to boil water, fell into his boiling water. The fact goes that those were tea leaves.

Tea was first drunk in China as far back as 2700 BC. 'Tea', 'chai' and 'chini' words have their origin in China.

❥ Chinese emperor who used to drink boiled water . One day a few leaves of the twigs fell into the boiling water and they gave it a delicious flavour , it is said that they were tea leaves .

❥ Indian legend , once a Buddhist monk cut off his eyelids to avoid sleep during meditations . Ten tea plants grew out of his eyelids . The eyelids when added in boiling water and then consumed , prevents sleep .
