> Peninsular plateau is a table land composed of old crystalline, igneous and metamorphic rocks.

> They are divided into 2 main divisions :
1. Central Highlands.
2. Deccan plateau

1. Central Highlands .

- The part of peninsular plateau lying to the north of the Narmada river covering a major area of Malwa plateau is called Central Highlands.
- Central highlands is bounded by the Vindhyan range on the west and Aravalis on the northwest.
- Rivers draining through this region are namely Chambal, the sind, The betwa, and Ken.
-It is wider in west but narrower in the east.

2. Deccan plateau

- It is a triangular landmass that lies to the south of the river Narmada.
- The satpura range flanks it's broad base in the north, while the Mahadev, the Maikal range from its eastern extensions.
- The Deccan plateau is higher in the west and slopes gently eastwards.
- Three prominent ranges are Garo, the Khasi, and the Jaintia hills.
